Hi Seekers,

I have Identified the pillar carvings of Bodhidharma both in Madurai and Kanchipuram.

Temples approx age:

Meenakshi Amman Temple,Madurai – 600 CE
Varadharaja Perumal Temple, Kanchipuram – 1053 CE

Brief about Bodhidharma:

Bodhidharma is believed to be born in the Kanchipuram city of India, located near the famous Madras city during the early 450-500 A.D. He was the 3rd son of the famous king of Kanchipuram city and grew up in the Warriors cast.

He started getting trained under his mentor Prajnatara and became a monk. His name was changed to from Bodhitara to Bodhidharma and started living in his monastery where he learned the way of the Buddha.

After his father’s death, Bodhidharma started spreading the knowledge and beliefs of Buddhism throughout India under the guidance of his mentor.

Years later, after the passing of his mentor, Bodhidharma left the monastery and went to China to fulfil the last request of his master: spreading the real teachings of Buddha further into China.

He is considered by Zen Buddhists to be the twenty-eighth Patriarch in a lineage that is traced directly back to Gautama Buddha himself. Bodhidharma is also credited with founding the famous Shaolin school of Chinese martial arts and is known as a Tripitaka Dharma Master.

My Click from  Meenakshi Amman Temple,Madurai

bodhidharma1let we look at the carving taken in Madurai, Meenakshi Amman Temple. I referred Websites and video what I have seen about the sage Bodhidharma appeared with a long stick and long hair, this temple was built in approx 600 AD year ago or more than that, temple built by Pandya dynasty one of the ancient powerful kings who ruled south India, also one of the Moovendargal . They had a friendly relationship with Pallava Empires for the bonding of that they may be created this Bodhidharma caving in their Meenakshi Amman temple. Also, 450 AD bodhidharma was the one at the pinnacle of Buddhism for that gratitude Pandya’s created this carving. Carving looks like a younger version of Bodhidharma because of this temple too old that maybe they started constructed this temple around the same period of  Bodhidharma.

My Click from  Varadharaja Perumal Temple, Kanchipuram

let we see this picture is taken from varadharaja perumal temple, kanchipuram. the temple built in 1053 AD by Chola’s, some description reported even before the Chola’s, pallavas maybe created the basic structure of this temple then carved the bodhidharma but this time he had long beards and he is wearing some kind of head cover.artist portrayed Bodhidharma is an old person because of 300-500 year gap from 450 AD Bodhidharma period to this temple’s age.

Thanks for Reading!!!
